HardwareJust wanted to jot down one thought while it's in my head.

The 4 GB iPhone costs $100 more than the 8 GB iPod. For that, you lose 4 GB, but you gain...

HardwareApple, you crafty bastards. Anyone who knows me knows how much I love Mac minis. I'd love to get a new one but ever since they made the move to Intel, they've been overpriced. Apple quietly revved them earlier this month--the same day they introduced iLife 08--which leads me to my dilema: do I buy a cheap, refurbished, old model, or do I spend the full price on a new one and get iLife 08? Decisions, decisions.

HardwareI am soooo happy that Apple switched to Intel CPUs. Not because I care about x86 vs PPC, but because the new chips kick ass in general, and because they make one very cool thing possible.

HardwareWoo hoo! My new MacBook showed up two days early--July 3rd instead of July 5th. Here's my notes on setup (hardwre and software) and other observations.

HardwareI wish Apple would name things a bit more clearly. Calling the new video-capable iPod "the iPod" makes things confusing for those of us whose job is to talk about different things and be specific. "A plain iPod that's new and plays video" doesn't quite roll off the tongue, but that's what Steve Jobs insists it is. It is not an "iPod video" like the "iPod Photo" was before it, nor is it a "vPod" even though that's what most people call it. And no one who's not a tech knows what a "5G iPod" is.

HardwareThere is an unusually large overlap between the PowerMac and iMac lines. The midrange iMac seems to be everything the base PowerMac is, and more. (Minus internal expandability, of course.) Update: The single-CPU PowerMac G5 is no more.

HardwareEver since the Mac Mini came out, the one thing I wished it had was more ports, especially on the front of the unit. The few ports on the Mini are inconveniently on the back of the unit and very crowded. I envision a base station, shaped like the Mini and maybe an inch tall.
